John worked as a specialist family lawyer in London and Devon for 10 years before deciding to work exclusively as a mediator in 2000. Since then he has successfully mediated hundreds of disputes. As a family mediator he is recognised by the Ministry of Justice to undertake all types of mediations and to work directly with children. He is an accredited member of the Family Mediators Association and also supervises other mediators on their behalf. As a civil and workplace mediator he has been asked by solicitors, businesses, educational bodies, charities and individuals to mediate a wide variety of disputes.
Vicki also worked as a solicitor specialising in Family Law for over 10 years before deciding to become a full time mediator. With John, she set up South West Mediation in 2003. Vicki is a very experienced mediator who has been awarded Senior Mediator status by the Family Mediators Association. Vicki is recognised by the Ministry of Justice to undertake mediations involving both children and financial matters and to consult directly with children. Vicki is a also a Professional Practice Consultant and she supervises other family mediators.
Jane trained a family mediator in 2006 and joined South West Mediation in 2008. She is a member of the Family Mediators Association and has been awarded Senior Mediator status, and is recognized to practise all types of mediation by the Legal Aid Agency, including undertaking Direct Consultation with children. Jane is also a Professional Practice Consultant where she supervises other mediators. Her previous experience has been in the special education and further education sectors, working with families, individuals and groups. She is also a member of the British Psychological Society .
Sam’s background is also in legal practice having worked for a number of years as a solicitor specialising in Family Law. She trained as a mediator in 1996. She is a member of Resolution and is recognised by the Legal Aid Agency to undertake all types of mediation. She is also qualified to work directly with children.
Jan trained as a family mediator in 1999 and has mediated with South West Mediation since the end of 2005. She is also a qualified solicitor and has worked specialising in family law for more than 20 years. She is a member of the Family Mediators Association and is recognised by the Legal Aid Agency to undertake all types of mediation.
Claire trained as a family mediator in 2009 with Resolution and then Devon Family Solutions and is recognised as competent by the Legal Aid Agency to undertake mediations about children and financial matters. Claire qualified as a Barrister in 1991 and was a Principal Lawyer in a London borough specialising in Child Protection and Education. She is a member of the FMA.
Andrea has a background working in business in sales and marketing. She has also worked in recruitment and has advised on employment contract issues. She trained as a Workplace & Interpersonal Mediator with UK Mediation in 2011, and she qualified as a Family Mediator in January 2012.
Lawrence was formerly a partner in a leading London media law firm and co founded and managed another. He has more than 20 years experience of finding solutions for clients ranging from multi national corporations to individuals and has been widely praised for his calm, efficient and very commercial approach. He trained as a civil and commercial mediator in 2008 with ADR Group and joined South West Mediation to develop their Civil and Commercial Mediation Practice in 2011.
Matthew has worked in financial services since graduating from Exeter University in 1995. Initially focused on investments on pensions, he has since 2004 worked as an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Matthew was one of the first IFAs in the UK to be accredited as a Chartered Financial Planner in 2005. He is also a Fellow of the Personal Society, a Trust and Estates Practitioner, a Later Life Accredited Adviser and a trained family mediator. In addition to the full range of wealth management services, Matthew specialises in advising on financial and pension planning on divorce. Matthew can assist with the financial information gathering and preparation of current valuations, as well as the presentation of options for dealing with the division of pensions, investments, mortgages and protection arrangements in a tax-efficient manner. Where appropriate, Matthew can also model future income and expenditure projections to help ensure that the financial needs of both parties are met as far as possible.
