A Guide to Sorting out Finances on Divorce

23rd February 2017

The Family Justice Council, a government task force of judges, lawyers and academics has recently supported the publication of the second edition of this useful guide "Sorting out finances on divorce" for people who are getting divorced or ending a civil partnership. The guidance is particularly helpful for people who are in mediation or going through the court process without the support of a solicitor. Most people in this situation do not know what would be a fair thing to do. What they do know is that they don’t want to get less or more than a judge would order. The guidance helps explain what factors the court takes into account and what a judge might do in a case like theirs. It is for people who when they separate want to sort out their finances themselves perhaps because they cannot afford a solicitor or do not want to go to court but do want to know what would be the fair. It is packed full of really useful information.
